How did you get involved in the marine industry and the marina?
I was destined! I was born in Sydney. My parents always holidayed on the Central Coast and purchased a holiday home in Killcare in 1975. In 1980 the local marina was put up for sale and they decided on a "sea-change" and bought it.
As a family business I worked here (and other places) over the intervening years. I owned and ran my own trailer-boat business from 1994 to 2001. In 2001 I moved back to Killcare Marina and have managed the business ever since.
In October 2005 ownership of the marina changed and I was employed as CEO. I am currently living a working dream and propelling the marina toward a market-leading state of the art marina facility.
My experience in the industry has helped me to understand it and the environment. As a keen boater myself I know how much wear and tear is involved on boats and their accessories and how important a product or service is to a customer. Having been in life threatening situations in boats, I know how a boater relies on their boat, it's mechanicals and accessories to work first-time, every time. This has taught me to never, ever compromise on quality and see this as the most important mindset to instill on my staff.
In the past 32 years I have witnessed significant changes to the natural form of Hardy's Bay. The sandflats were my playground and I remember being able to row under the Hardy's Bay Bridge. Rental cottages and our favourite takeaway are now extensive homes and units - but this is progress and we can't go backwards!
